
BAUCHI ACReSAL COMMENCES A 3-DAY TRAINING AND WORKSHOP ON PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES, MILESTONES, COVERAGE, AND IMPACT IN BAUCHI STATE.

The Bauchi State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has commenced a 3-day training and workshop aimed at enhancing the understanding and effectiveness of ACReSALs implementation strategies, achievements, coverage, and impact within the state. The workshop which took place at Tahir Guests Palace, Kano, targets key stakeholders, including members of the State Steering and Technical Committees, Honourable members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, and other relevant participants with a goal to deepen their knowledge and engagement in the projects execution across all 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State, fostering ownership and sustainability. Declaring the event open, the Chairman of the State Steering Committee and Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Rt. Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule emphasized the importance of the workshop. He noted that many stakeholders previously lacked a clear understanding of ACReSAL's operations and significance, which this workshop will do justiceto that. He reaffirmed Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammeds commitment to the project, highlighting its critical role in addressing climate change in Bauchi State. In his goodwill message, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman expressed his satisfaction with the workshop and applauded the ACReSAL project for its tangible impact on the lives of citizens. He assured the legislative arm's continuous support to ensure effective governance and successful project implementation. The speaker also recognized the World Banks support and called on all participants to contribute meaningfully to the projects success. the Speaker used the occasion and revealed that Bauchi State would be the first State in the Federation to pass Waste Scavenging and Recycling Bill, making it a pace setter, stating further that the House is working ascidously as the waste scavenging Bill is presently receiving legislative actions, he then called on all to be nimble in their respective areas. The speaker said this day marked a significant stage toward enhancing commitment to effective governance and developmental progress in Bauchi. In his remarks, the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Muhammad Sani Umar, who said began his career as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, expressed strong support for environmental projects aimed at making the environment greener and sustaining life He emphasized the connection between environmental changes and health issues, noting that investing in the environment is essentially investing in life. Additionally, he appreciated the inclusive nature of the project, which involves individuals at the household level, and believes that the ACReSAL project will not only be understood but also have a lasting impact. Also, the Co-Chairmen of the Steering Committee Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Iliyasu Aliyu Gital and Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Abdulrazaq Nuhu Zaki commended the State Project Management Unit for organizing such a remarkable workshop and emphasized the need for sustained commitment to the projects delivery in the state. Earlier in the session, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir provided an overview of the ACReSAL project, its operations, implementation strategies, and ongoing interventions. He also highlighted the roles of various stakeholders in achieving the project's development objectives. Dr. Kabir expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State Government for its support and called for continued cooperation to ensure greater successes. Participants at the workshop included the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, the Head of Civil Service, members of the ACReSAL State Steering and Technical Committees, the Auditor General, Deputy Accountant General, SPMU staff, representatives from the focal NGO, and other key stakeholders. Key highlights of the workshop featured presentations on the projects overall framework, its three main sectors of Environment, Agriculture, and Water Resourcesas well as a legislative presentation on the Waste Scavenging and Recycling Bill by a member of the State House of Assembly.
